Amazon Women on the Moon

This is just a bit tad strange to be funny. My favourites are the surrealist skits -"Remote Control", "Critics' Corner" and "Ray" albeit you can't really laugh.

One would have thought it would just follow the slapstick of the first skit with Arsenio Hall but it doesn't really.

Otherwise, the throwbacks to another age - "Son of the Invisible Man" and "Reckless Youth" do raise some giggles. But "Hospital Room" and "Two Valid I.D.s" are a bit too mundane to be funny. The main feature, a send-up of 50s sci-fi, is also a bit too obvious.

The deleted scenes offer a lot of recompense - the bitterly ironical take on war heroes in "The Unknown Soldier" and the Python-esque "French Ventriloquist's Dummy". Oh why weren't they included in the main feature?

I suppose this is some sort of alt-comedy masterpiece, if you can take in the subtleties and nuances to laugh.

You don't mess with the Zohan

Nothing much to say about this. I can't watch this sober. Lotsa silly sex jokes. Does provide an interesting solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, though.

Der Todesking

This is also another masterpiece. "The is the King of Death.... He makes people want to die". A suicide-related death for every day of the week.

Death is just so much sweet release isn't it? Mindblowing days are Tuesday and Sunday. Tuesday - after watching some crude WW2 Holocaust atrocity re-enactment, a man goes on a murder-suicide rampage. Sunday - a great mindfucking performance from a tortured 2-bit actor. Interspersed with shots of a putrefying corpse. The "suicide bridge" segment is also atmospheric. Less gripping - some found footage and an old maid.

Guaranteed to make you fucked up, at least a bit, after watching this and you'd wish for sweet sweet release yourself.

Metallica - Death Magnetic

A strange 180 degee turn to the days of "And Justice For All" and "Master of Puppets". Whatever happened to the name of "progress"? As such, it's not such a bad album. The hooks are there, and it is a hell lot more melodic than both earlier albums. But from the word go, the opening track "That was just your life" screams -"Thrash metal wahay!".

There's a very nice major chord bridge to "The day that never comes". "Cyanide" is probably my fave track at the mo', all crunching riffs, grunty bass and neat drumming.

"The Unforgiven 3" doesn't bear much resemblance to its predecessors, except for the arpeggiated chords. Its chorus is also way cooler than its parent and grandparent.

"Suicide & Redemption" tries too much to capture the likes of "Orion, Inc." but Rob Trujillo is no Cliff Burton. And "My Apocalypse" massages my bowels very well, thank you.

Now, what to do with the compression?

Eagle Shooting Heroes (DVD)

Little known gem of a comedy masterpiece from 1993. Wong Kar Wai executively produced this and followed it up with his own bewildering "Ashes of Time".

To get all the jokes, you must have some working knowledge of the Teochew accent and Louis Cha's sprawling "Legend of the Condor Heroes". Seemingly haphazard, most of the jokes, slapstick or otherwise, do work, except for the men in rubber suits part and the nauseating homosexual courting ritual.

The best part - East Evil Ouyang Feng's repeated attempts at the assassination of North Beggar Hong Qi, who is seemingly indestructible.

Comes with deleted scenes, which some work as jokes and some don't.

Highly recommended.

Happy Feet DVD

Not too bad. Pretty frustrating when you cannot find your true love, innit?

The Clash - Revolution Rock Live! DVD

Captures all the quintessential performances and the good songs. Some of them are patchy - "Guns of Brixton", some very good - "Police & Thieves". And damn, is Paul Simonon good-looking or what? I dare you to say Strummer is not on speed during the early performances.

I have a pirated copy and "White Man in Hammersmith Palais" and "London's Burning" is not in full. Damn copy protection!!!!!!

Wall.E

Tres magnifico. I was torn up as I had broke up with my gf right before the movie I cried buckets during the love scenes. BEST CGI cartoon EVER.
